EU mission: Two million beneficiaries from the resilience enhancement program across eight governorates.

EU Mission Concludes Resilience Program in Yemen

The European Union (EU) Mission in Yemen has announced the successful conclusion of the final phase of its joint program aimed at enhancing resilience in rural areas. This initiative has positively impacted over 2.3 million individuals across eight governorates.

Program Overview

In a press release shared with the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the EU highlighted that the program, which concluded its last phase in the temporary capital of Aden, provided crucial support to communities affected by conflict. Spanning three consecutive phases from 2016 to 2025, the program adopted an integrated, multi-sectoral approach. It focused on improving livelihoods, enhancing food security, expanding access to renewable energy, and promoting climate adaptation. Additionally, the program fostered inclusive governance and social cohesion.

Key Achievements

The EU and the Swedish government funded this program, which has significantly improved food production for over 130,000 individuals. It also assisted more than 60,000 farmers in modernizing agricultural practices. Furthermore, the initiative created over 12,000 jobs through infrastructure projects and cash-for-work programs. Notably, it launched more than 8,000 small businesses, with 38% owned by women. Additionally, 11,000 young people and women acquired essential skills for the job market.

Commitment to Yemen’s Future

Gabriel Monuera Vinals, the EU Ambassador to Yemen, reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting the Yemeni people through the joint program for nearly a decade. He emphasized the EU’s dedication to resilience, livelihoods, and long-term peacebuilding. Vinals reiterated the EU’s promise to continue aiding Yemen on its path toward a more resilient and peaceful future.

This initiative marks a significant step in addressing the challenges faced by rural communities in Yemen, showcasing the EU’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian support and development in the region.
