“Masam” Dismantles 1,531 Landmines and War Remnants in Mukalla

The “Masam” project, dedicated to landmine removal in Yemen, recently conducted its third destruction operation in Mukalla, Hadhramaut Governorate. This initiative successfully eliminated 1,531 pieces of landmines and unexploded ordnance.

Ongoing Efforts for Safety

According to the project’s media center, emergency teams from “Masam” collaborated with the Executive Center for Mine Action in Mukalla to carry out this operation. The media center stated, “This operation is part of the ongoing efforts in Mukalla to clear the area of landmines and war remnants of all types. Our goal is to ensure the safety of the city’s residents and provide maximum security for all civilian sites and access roads.”

Details of the Destroyed Materials

The operation included the destruction of various hazardous materials, such as:

  • 10 anti-tank mines
  • 6 anti-personnel mines
  • 4 guided missiles (N72)
  • 23 mortar shells (82mm)
  • 183 shells (37mm)
  • 150 shells (23mm)
  • 15 hand grenades
  • 720 rounds (12.7mm)
  • 420 rounds (14.7mm)

Cumulative Impact of the Project

With this latest operation, the total number of destroyed landmines, explosive devices, and unexploded ordnance in Mukalla has now reached 7,921 since January 17.

This ongoing commitment to mine clearance not only enhances safety but also supports the broader goal of restoring peace and stability in the region.
