Yemen Participates in Economic Council Meeting

The Republic of Yemen participated today in the 119th regular session of the Economic Unity Council. This meeting took place at the headquarters of the Arab League, with a delegation led by Dr. Ali Mousa, Yemen’s Acting Permanent Representative to the Arab League.

Diplomatic Efforts Acknowledged

Ambassador Mousa praised the council’s secretariat for its efforts to enhance operations and monitor the implementation of council decisions. He urged the council, along with heads of specialized Arab federations and companies, to support Yemen’s developmental needs and infrastructure projects.

Condemnation of Ongoing Attacks

The Yemeni government reiterated its condemnation of the continuous terrorist attacks carried out by Houthi militias against commercial vessels in the Red Sea. These actions, allegedly backed by the Iranian regime, threaten regional stability and security.

Environmental and Humanitarian Concerns

Mousa warned that these ongoing terrorist attacks could lead to devastating environmental disasters. He emphasized that the Houthi group’s actions prioritize the interests of their supporters over the welfare of the Yemeni people. This situation poses a significant threat to international peace, security, and global energy supplies.

Call for Maritime Security

Mousa stated, “Securing international maritime routes and protecting regional and international stability can only be achieved by restoring the Yemeni state and allowing the government to exercise its authority over the entire coastal strip and all Yemeni territory.” He called for an end to the Houthi coup, which aims to turn Yemen into a platform for threatening regional and international interests.

Responsibility for Consequences

The ambassador held the Houthi militias and the Iranian regime fully responsible for the economic, environmental, and humanitarian repercussions of this terrorist escalation. He noted that such actions increase suffering and hinder humanitarian aid and the flow of essential goods needed by millions in the region. Additionally, the militarization of regional waters further jeopardizes Yemen’s infrastructure.

International Community’s Role

Mousa reiterated the Yemeni government’s call for the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to take decisive action against Houthi aggression. He urged the classification of the Houthi militias as a terrorist organization and the cessation of any political incentives for them. He stressed that successful efforts to end the Houthi threat depend on supporting the Yemeni government and its armed forces to restore state institutions and sovereignty over the national territory.

Conclusion

The Yemeni government’s active participation in the Economic Unity Council underscores its commitment to regional cooperation and stability. As the situation evolves, the international community’s response will be crucial in addressing the ongoing challenges facing Yemen and the broader region.
