Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, has instructed the General Authority for Environmental Protection to conduct a field study in the Ditouh Reserve located in Socotra Governorate. This investigation aims to understand the alarming phenomenon of shrimp mortality and identify its underlying causes.
Minister Al-Sharjabi emphasized the necessity of environmental monitoring and evaluation. He called for the collection of essential samples and their analysis according to scientific standards. This approach will help pinpoint the reasons behind the shrimp die-off and facilitate appropriate remedial actions.
The minister stressed the need for an urgent and detailed report on the findings from the field study. This report should include necessary recommendations to safeguard the marine ecosystem within the reserve and protect the region’s fishery resources. He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to preserving natural reserves and environmental resources in the Socotra Archipelago, recognizing them as a national and global environmental heritage.
The proactive measures taken by the Ministry of Water and Environment reflect a strong dedication to environmental protection in Socotra. By addressing the shrimp mortality issue, the ministry aims to ensure the sustainability of marine life and the ecological balance in this unique region.
