National Inquiry Committee meets with Chief Justice and Supreme Court President.

In a significant meeting held in the temporary capital, Aden, the President and members of the National Committee for Investigating Allegations of Human Rights Violations convened with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Mohsen Yahya Talib. During the meeting, the Committee’s head, Judge Ahmed Saeed Al-Muflahi, presented the outcomes of their visits to courts and detention centers across various provinces, the state of military judiciary, and the Committee’s observations on the delays in handling several military cases. Their vision emphasizes ensuring the right to access justice and achieving fairness for victims.

The discussions also covered the latest developments in human rights related to the judiciary, underscoring the importance of establishing specialized courts and prosecution offices to handle human rights cases referred by the National Committee. The Chief Justice lauded the National Committee’s efforts during the previous phase and the significance of its national role in safeguarding the rights of human rights violation victims in Yemen. He affirmed the Council’s readiness to cooperate with the Committee concerning issues of public interest and ensuring justice for citizens, promising ongoing coordination to support the Committee’s efforts within the framework of its established mandate.

Additionally, the President and members of the National Committee for Investigation met with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic, Judge Dr. Ali Al-Awash. They discussed several field observations regarding the litigation process and the slow procedures in some courts, exploring solutions to uphold the principles of a fair trial and procedures aimed at reducing human rights violations.

Judge Al-Awash commended the National Committee’s investigative efforts into human rights violations, expressing the Court’s readiness to facilitate the Committee’s tasks. This series of meetings signifies a collaborative effort towards enhancing the judicial system’s responsiveness to human rights issues and ensuring justice and fairness in Yemen.
