Houthi Militia Blocks Visits to Detained Individuals in Al-Houban Prisons

The Houthi militia has recently barred families from visiting their detained relatives in prisons located in Al-Houban, east of Taiz city. This action highlights a troubling increase in violations against detainees and their families.

Families Denied Access

Human rights sources report that, on the evening of the 12th, dozens of families were prevented from entering the Al-Salih area, which the militia has transformed into one of its largest secret prisons. Families sought to visit their loved ones but faced outright denial.

Extensive Searches and Intimidation

On the night of Thursday to Friday, the militia conducted extensive searches within the Al-Salih prison cells. They aimed to locate mobile phones, claiming that detainees used these devices to communicate with the outside world. Additionally, several detainees underwent intense interrogations during this operation.

Concerns Over Recent Transfers

These actions followed reports that the militia had transferred four detainees from Al-Salih prisons to an undisclosed location. This news has raised significant concerns among the families of those affected.

Urgent Call for Action

Human rights advocates warn of the ongoing severe violations against detainees in Houthi-controlled prisons in Al-Houban. They urge the United Nations envoy and the International Committee of the Red Cross to conduct an urgent visit to these facilities. Advocates emphasize the need for fact-finding missions and pressure on the militia to release all detainees.
