In a troubling development, Houthi militia officials have unlawfully seized extensive land belonging to Ibb University. This incident highlights a broader pattern of systematic looting of public properties in the region under Houthi control.
Local sources indicate that officials from the Houthi-controlled offices of oil and agriculture in Ibb have encroached upon university land. These officials reportedly brought in heavy machinery to begin land alterations, signaling an initial step in their takeover. Alarmingly, the university administration has remained silent throughout this process.
The disputed land lies adjacent to the central library building along the sports hall road in the heart of Ibb City. It spans over 108 “qasbah,” a significant area that underscores the scale of the encroachment.
In recent years, the frequency of land seizures targeting Ibb University has surged. Influential Houthi leaders have increasingly participated in these unlawful activities, which form part of a larger campaign to appropriate lands and properties belonging to various government institutions in the province.
This situation raises serious concerns about the rule of law and the protection of public assets in areas controlled by the Houthi militia. As the community watches these developments, the need for accountability and restoration of rights becomes ever more pressing.
