Project "Masam" Dismantles Explosive Devices in Yemen

On Wednesday, the “Masam” project, dedicated to clearing landmines in Yemen, successfully conducted a destruction operation that eliminated 1,749 unexploded ordnance (UXO) planted by the Iran-backed Houthi militia in the Bab al-Mandab region.

Details of the Destruction Operation

The operation, carried out by the second special task force, involved the detonation of various explosive devices. This included five Katyusha rockets, 750 assorted fuses, 109 anti-tank mines, 46 anti-personnel mines, and 17 improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Additionally, the team destroyed 690 assorted rounds of ammunition and 132 shells.

Adherence to International Standards

The destruction process adhered to international standards for the safe disposal of landmines and war remnants. The team ensured that the operation took place in a remote location, away from populated areas and agricultural lands, to minimize risks to civilians.

Recent Activities by Masam

It is noteworthy that last week, the Masam teams also conducted a similar operation, destroying 2,015 unexploded devices planted by the Houthi militia in Abyan Governorate. These ongoing efforts highlight Masam’s commitment to enhancing safety and security in Yemen by removing dangerous remnants of conflict.

The work of the Masam project plays a crucial role in protecting communities and restoring normalcy in regions affected by conflict.
