The Ministry of Culture mourns the passing of renowned Yemeni poet Dr. Sultan Al-Sarimi.

The Ministry of Culture has expressed its condolences to the Yemeni people and the literary community following the death of Dr. Sultan Said Haidar Al-Sarimi. The esteemed poet, former editor-in-chief of Al-Thawri newspaper, parliamentarian, and activist passed away after a life dedicated to struggle and the pursuit of freedom for the marginalized.

Additionally, he was a member of the political bureau of the Yemeni Socialist Party, advocating for progressive thought and the rights of the people.

The Ministry offered heartfelt condolences and sincere sympathies to Dr. Al-Sarimi’s family, friends, and the cultural and literary community, as well as his comrades in the Yemeni Socialist Party. Early Life and Education

Born in 1948 in Al-Hujariya, Taiz Governorate, Dr. Al-Sarimi developed a love for his country from an early age. He began his education in local schools before moving to Djibouti with his father, where he completed his studies. Upon returning to Yemen, he initially worked as a construction laborer in Aden. However, his aspirations led him to Russia in 1980, where he earned a master’s degree in folk literature in 1985, followed by a Ph.D. in social science philosophy in 1990.

Literary Works

Dr. Sultan Al-Sarimi’s literary contributions include notable poetry collections such as “Alphabet of the Sea and Revolution,” “Rhythmic Concerns,” “Nashwan and the Sorrows of the Sun,” “And Said Al-Sarimi,” “Four Roses and a Poem,” “Coral Flower,” and “Whispers.” His works reflect his deep connection to his homeland and the struggles of its people.

The legacy of Dr. Sultan Al-Sarimi will continue to inspire future generations, ensuring that his voice remains a vital part of Yemen’s cultural and literary heritage.
