Minister Launches Food Security Project in Cairo

Cairo, Egypt – Today, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Salem Al-Saqtri, inaugurated the opening workshop for a new food security project in Yemen. The event took place in Cairo and featured Dr. Ali Abu Sabaa, Director General of the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA). This initiative, funded by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), has a total budget of €2.5 million.

Focus on Agricultural Research and Capacity Building

The workshop aims to enhance agricultural research and build capacity in the sectors of agriculture, small ruminant production, and dairy products. Participants will explore innovative strategies to improve food security in Yemen.

Minister Highlights Project’s Significance

Minister Al-Saqtri emphasized the project’s importance as a transformative intervention for Yemen’s agricultural sector. He noted that it bridges scientific research with practical agricultural work.
