The Interior Minister stated that Arab Traffic Week is a crucial awareness initiative to address the harsh realities of road safety.

Minister Highlights the Importance of Traffic Awareness

Interior Minister, Major General Ibrahim Haidan, emphasized that Traffic Week serves as a crucial platform to address the increasing challenges on the roads. He underscored the need for collaborative efforts between government bodies and the community to reduce accidents and the associated human and material losses that burden both the state and society.

Kickoff of Traffic Week Activities

In a press statement on Saturday, Minister Haidan announced that Traffic Week will commence tomorrow, Sunday, across all provinces under the theme “Slow Down… A Life Awaits You.” This slogan reflects the urgent need to enhance traffic awareness and promote responsible behavior on the roads.

Alarming Statistics Demand Immediate Attention

Minister Haidan revealed concerning statistics from the first quarter of 2025, indicating a significant rise in traffic incidents. A total of 1,030 accidents occurred, resulting in 146 fatalities and 933 injuries, with material losses estimated at around 924 million Yemeni Riyals. These figures represent an increase compared to the same period in 2024, highlighting a collective responsibility to confront this grim reality.

Government Prioritizes Traffic Safety

The Minister affirmed that the government and the Ministry of Interior prioritize traffic issues. Traffic Week presents an opportunity to enhance awareness and guidance efforts. He praised the substantial work undertaken by traffic police across all provinces.

Call to Action for Ministry Personnel

Minister Haidan urged all ministry personnel to actively engage in Traffic Week activities and collaborate with traffic police to ensure the campaign’s success. He stressed the importance of achieving tangible results in traffic awareness and discipline.

Community Involvement is Essential

The Minister called on all segments of society, including media professionals, speakers, intellectuals, academics, and influencers, to participate in the traffic campaign and disseminate awareness messages. He particularly urged vehicle and motorcycle drivers to adhere to traffic rules and etiquette to safeguard lives and property.

As Traffic Week unfolds, the emphasis on collective action and heightened awareness becomes more critical than ever. By working together, the community can significantly reduce traffic-related incidents and foster a safer environment for all road users.
