The Chairman of the Leadership Council praises the historic relations with the Russian Federation.

On Wednesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, hosted Alexander Kinshak, the Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with his accompanying delegation at the Maashiq Palace in Aden.

During the meeting, President Alimi expressed his warm welcome to the Russian delegation, which is visiting Yemen’s temporary capital as part of ongoing efforts to revive joint ministerial committees and enhance bilateral relations between Yemen and Russia. He highlighted the importance of resuming operations at the Russian embassy in Aden, a move seen as crucial for fostering stronger ties.

Historical Ties and Future Prospects

President Alimi praised the longstanding relations between Yemen and the Russian Federation, which date back nearly nine decades. He emphasized the mutual commitment to expand and strengthen these ties across various sectors. The President expressed confidence that the reopening of the Russian embassy in Aden would advance bilateral relations and unite the international community in support of the Yemeni people’s aspirations for restoring state institutions, achieving peace, and ensuring stability. He also underscored the need to address the violations of international law and global trade freedoms by Houthi militias.

Current Situation in Yemen

The discussions also covered the latest developments in Yemen, including the mediation efforts led by Saudi Arabia and Oman aimed at reducing tensions and initiating a comprehensive political process under the auspices of the United Nations.

In response, the Russian delegation reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to supporting initiatives and efforts aimed at ending the conflict in Yemen and restoring peace, stability, and development in the country.

The meeting included several key figures, such as Dr. Shaeib Al-Zandani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, Director of the Presidential Leadership Council Office, and Yevgeny Kordov, Chargé d’Affaires at the Russian Embassy in Yemen.

This meeting marks a significant step in reinforcing the historical ties between Yemen and Russia, showcasing a shared vision for a peaceful and stable future in the region.
