On November 29, the Republic of Yemen participated in a celebration organized by the Arab League at its headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. This event marked the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, observed annually.
During the ceremony, Yemen’s Acting Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Dr. Ali Mousa, emphasized the importance of the occasion. He stated that the event serves as a reminder of the enduring commitment to a cause that has represented a struggle for justice and human rights for decades. He was joined by the Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ambassador Saeed Abu Ali, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt, Elena Panova, along with several ambassadors from friendly and sister nations.
Ambassador Mousa described the celebration as more than just an annual commemoration. He called it a powerful statement against the ongoing injustices faced by the Palestinian people on their occupied land. He highlighted the unprecedented violence and violations of international law and human rights that Palestinians endure daily.
The Ambassador expressed Yemen’s support for the recent actions taken by the International Criminal Court (ICC). He noted that the ICC, established to prosecute war crimes, has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Mousa remarked that this decision restores hope and confidence in international law and its institutions, as well as accountability for war criminals.
Mousa reiterated Yemen’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, which he described as the foremost issue for the Arab nation. He affirmed the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and their aspiration to establish an independent state with full sovereignty along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In closing, the Acting Permanent Representative expressed profound solidarity with the Palestinian cause and the sacrifices made by the Palestinian people. He praised their resilience in the face of systematic violations perpetrated by the Israeli occupation, which continue to occur under the watch of the international community.
This event not only highlights Yemen’s commitment to the Palestinian cause but also reinforces the collective call for justice and peace in the region.
