Meeting Between Yemeni Leadership and EU Ambassador

On Tuesday, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrimi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Patrick Simonnet, the European Union Ambassador to Yemen. The two discussed the prospects for bilateral partnership, recent developments in the country, and ongoing efforts to stabilize and normalize conditions in the liberated provinces.

Strengthening Partnership with the EU

Al-Mahrimi emphasized the importance of enhancing the partnership with the European Union. He highlighted the need to support state institutions and contribute to reconstruction and development efforts. Al-Mahrimi praised the EU’s positive role in supporting political, humanitarian, and developmental initiatives in Yemen. He reiterated his commitment to all efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and protecting civilians, which would bolster security and stability across various provinces.

Combating Terrorism and Extremism

The council member stressed the necessity of continuing efforts to combat terrorism and extremism. He asserted that ending the Houthi coup and restoring state institutions represent the only path to achieving comprehensive and sustainable peace. This approach is crucial for securing maritime routes and international navigation against ongoing threats.

Preparations for Southern Dialogue Conference

The meeting also addressed preparations for the upcoming Southern Dialogue Conference, scheduled to take place in Riyadh under the auspices of Saudi Arabia. Al-Mahrimi explained that the dialogue aims to unify ranks and overcome differences, ultimately leading to a unified political vision. He acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role in facilitating the dialogue and maintaining internal cohesion.

EU’s Commitment to Yemen

In response, Ambassador Simonnet commended the tangible steps taken to enhance security and stability in Yemen. He reaffirmed that the European Union will remain a close partner to Yemen in addressing current challenges, aiming for an end to the conflict and the achievement of sustainable development.

This meeting underscores the ongoing collaboration between Yemen and the European Union, focusing on stability, development, and peace in the region.
