On Thursday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, received the credentials of several new ambassadors at the Maasheeq Palace in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital. The ambassadors included Ihab Ahmed Abu Sari from Egypt, Thomas Friedrich from Germany, Patrick Simonnet from the European Union, Mohamed Amin Ibrahim from Mauritania, and Paulo Ochoa Filho from Brazil.
Following the credential ceremony, President Alimi held separate meetings with the newly appointed ambassadors. Each ambassador conveyed greetings from their respective leaders, wishing the President good health and happiness, while also expressing hopes for security, stability, and peace for the Yemeni people.
President Alimi welcomed the ambassadors, emphasizing the council’s and the government’s commitment to facilitating their work. He highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing mutual interests with their respective countries.
The President noted the significance of the growing number of diplomatic credentials, which reflects the international community’s trust in the government’s efforts to establish security and stabilize state institutions in Aden. He pointed out that this trend could further isolate the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
During the meetings, President Alimi briefed the ambassadors on national developments. He discussed the government’s and the Central Bank’s efforts to implement economic, administrative, and financial reforms, despite the challenges posed by the ongoing Houthi conflict.
The President also addressed regional developments related to the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. He praised the sincere efforts of Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and other friendly nations in achieving this historic milestone, which aims to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and fulfill their aspirations for an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
President Alimi asserted that lasting peace in the region hinges on ending terrorism and expansionist projects that threaten regional and global stability. He urged the international community to classify the Houthi militia as a foreign terrorist organization and to form a coalition to combat its terrorism and human rights violations.
The President expressed gratitude for the support from the Saudi-led coalition and the United Arab Emirates, highlighting their assistance to the Yemeni people and government. He acknowledged recent Saudi support aimed at strengthening the national currency and the government’s ability to meet its obligations to citizens.
President Alimi stressed the need for continued international unity regarding the Yemeni situation. He reaffirmed the council’s and the government’s commitment to a close partnership with allies and friends to build comprehensive peace based on national, regional, and international references, particularly UN Resolution 2216. This approach aims to set Yemen on a path toward stability, development, and prosperity.
The ceremony and subsequent meetings included the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Shaea Al-Zandani, the Director of the President’s Office, Major General Saleh Al-Maqalih, and the Head of Presidential Protocol, Mohammed Haj Mahfouz.
