Yemen Participates in the 70th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women

The Republic of Yemen participated today in the opening session of the 70th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. The Yemeni delegation was led by Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, Yemen’s permanent representative to the UN.

Focus of the Current Session

This session, running from March 10 to March 19, 2026, features high-level ministerial sessions and interactive dialogues. Participants will discuss critical issues such as ensuring and enhancing access to justice for all girls and women. The agenda includes promoting inclusive legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws and practices, and addressing structural barriers. Additionally, the session will tackle gender equality, empower older women, and ensure women’s full and effective participation in public life and decision-making. A significant focus will also be on combating violence against women and girls.

UN Secretary-General’s Opening Remarks

In his opening remarks, the UN Secretary-General emphasized that access to justice for women and girls is essential for achieving gender equality and building more stable and just societies. He noted that millions of women worldwide still face discriminatory laws and practices that hinder their full enjoyment of rights. This situation calls for intensified international efforts to address these gaps and achieve justice for all.

Yemen’s Contributions to the Session

Ambassador Al-Saadi is scheduled to deliver Yemen’s statement during this session. He will also participate in a high-level meeting focused on violence against women and girls. This meeting aims to discuss international efforts to enhance the protection of women and girls and ensure their rights.

By engaging in these critical discussions, Yemen aims to contribute to the global dialogue on women’s rights and justice, reinforcing its commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women.
