Governor of Socotra Reviews Preparations for Mosquito Net Distribution Campaign

The Governor of Socotra, Engineer Raafat Al-Thaqali, conducted a review today of the ongoing preparations for a campaign aimed at distributing insecticide-treated mosquito nets across the province. This initiative is part of a broader effort to combat malaria and other vector-borne diseases in the region.

Commitment to Malaria Prevention

Governor Al-Thaqali emphasized the local authority’s commitment to supporting initiatives that help keep Socotra malaria-free. He reiterated the importance of collaboration and ongoing support for health-related activities in the area.

Key Stakeholders Discuss Campaign Details

The meeting included key figures such as Dr. Yasser Ba Hashim, Director General of the National Malaria Control Program and Vector-Borne Diseases at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Issa Al-Shanqabi, Director of the Public Health and Population Office in Socotra, and Mohammed Youssef Al-Hamid, Malaria Program Coordinator in Socotra. They discussed the office’s and program’s readiness to implement the mosquito net distribution campaign effectively.

Campaign Scope and Duration

Dr. Ba Hashim outlined that the campaign will distribute approximately 44,000 mosquito nets throughout various regions in Socotra. The initiative will last for six consecutive days. He highlighted that this campaign aims to protect the targeted population from the risks associated with malaria and other related fevers.

This proactive approach underscores the importance of public health initiatives in safeguarding the well-being of Socotra’s residents. The distribution of treated mosquito nets represents a critical step in preventing the spread of malaria and enhancing community health.
