Dr. Abdullah Al-Aleemi Meets UK Ambassador to Yemen

On Thursday, Dr. Abdullah Al-Aleemi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed the UK Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif. The two officials discussed the bilateral relationship between Yemen and the United Kingdom, as well as recent developments in national and regional situations. They also explored ways to enhance coordination between the two friendly nations on various issues of mutual interest.

Addressing Political and Security Challenges

During their meeting, the conversation shifted to the current political, economic, and military landscape in Yemen. Dr. Al-Aleemi highlighted the persistent challenges posed by the Houthi militia, which continues to engage in acts of terrorism against the Yemeni people. He also raised concerns about the militia’s recent attacks in the Red Sea, which threaten both regional and global security. The discussion included necessary steps to strengthen the state’s capabilities to maintain security and ensure safe international navigation.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Dr. Al-Aleemi praised the strong bilateral ties between Yemen and the United Kingdom. He acknowledged the UK’s humanitarian and developmental interventions across various sectors. He emphasized that Yemen’s economic and humanitarian situation requires increased support from international partners.

UK’s Commitment to Yemen

In response, Ambassador Sharif reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting the Yemeni government and its efforts across multiple fronts. She pointed to a coordinated British plan aimed at mobilizing international support to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people. This plan focuses on improving livelihoods, supporting economic recovery, and enhancing public services for citizens. The ambassador reiterated the UK’s backing for the Presidential Leadership Council and its commitment to Yemen’s security, unity, and stability.

The meeting between Dr. Al-Aleemi and Ambassador Sharif underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing Yemen’s pressing challenges. As both nations work together, they aim to foster a more stable and prosperous future for Yemen and its people.
