The Houthi militia has confirmed that it has subjected 2,300 students to military training courses across universities, colleges, and institutes in Ibb Governorate over the past few months. This initiative has sparked significant concern among local and international observers.
On Tuesday, Houthi media reported that the militia organized a public display of what they termed “General Mobilization Forces.” This event showcased the graduates of the military training program known as “Tsunami of Al-Aqsa.” The militia claims that these courses aim to prepare students to use weapons effectively, ensuring they are ready to confront what they describe as any form of “aggression” or escalation.
The militia’s military training comes amid heightened tensions, particularly during the Israeli offensive on Gaza. In response to these developments, the Houthis have intensified their military activities, including attacks on vessels in the Red Sea. They have launched compulsory military training programs in universities, institutes, and schools across all regions under their control. This initiative includes training for both teachers and students on weapon usage, alongside intensive mobilization lectures.
The Houthi militia’s decision to train students in military tactics raises serious questions about the implications for education and youth in the region. As the situation evolves, the international community continues to monitor these developments closely.
