On Thursday, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signed a grant agreement with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). This agreement allocates $1.5 million to support the development of public service infrastructure in Yemen.
The Kuwait Fund announced the initiative through a statement released by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). The proposed project aims to enhance community resilience amid the ongoing conflict in Yemen. It addresses challenges related to resource scarcity and limited services by improving community infrastructure. Furthermore, the project seeks to strengthen social cohesion and effectively tackle the underlying causes of instability in affected areas.
The project encompasses several small-scale community initiatives. These include the construction and rehabilitation of public schools, healthcare facilities, and infrastructure for drinking water and sanitation. By focusing on these critical areas, the project aims to improve the quality of life for residents and foster a sense of community.
The grant agreement was signed during the Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, D.C. Walid Al-Bahr, the Acting Director General of the Kuwait Fund, represented KFAED, while IOM Director General Amy Pope signed on behalf of the organization.
This collaboration highlights the commitment of both organizations to support Yemen’s recovery and development efforts. The funding will play a crucial role in addressing the urgent needs of communities affected by conflict and instability.
