Human rights report: Houthis launch a “war on minds” in Ibb Governorate.

Houthi Violations Against Academics in Ibb: A Report

A recent report by the organization “Rights Radar for Human Rights” has documented a series of severe violations committed by the Houthi militia against academics in both public and private universities in Ibb Governorate. The organization describes these actions as a “war against minds.”

Documented Violations

The report reveals that the organization recorded 55 direct violations against academic personnel. These incidents include injuries to 11 university professors, the abduction of 18 others, and the enforced disappearance of 6 academics. Disturbingly, one of these individuals suffered torture in a detention center operated by the militia.

Targeting Educational Institutions

Furthermore, the report highlights that the Houthi militia arbitrarily dismissed 26 academics from Ibb University. They also removed three others from teaching Islamic culture, assigning their roles to individuals loyal to the militia. This move aims to impose the militia’s ideology within the university environment.

Systematic Policy of Disruption

These violations form part of a systematic policy targeting educational institutions. The militia seeks to replace professional staff with politically loyal individuals, jeopardizing the future of higher education in the region. This strategy undermines the independence of universities and threatens the integrity of academic freedom.

Call for International Intervention

In conclusion, the organization urges immediate international intervention to protect academics and educational institutions from political targeting. They emphasize the need to hold accountable those responsible for these violations, which strike at one of the fundamental pillars of civil society.
