On Monday, the Houthi militia detained a sports official and football coach in the city of Ibb, located in central Yemen. This incident raises serious concerns about the ongoing security situation in the region.
Sources indicate that the militia arrested Eissa Saleh Al-Attab, the Director of the Youth and Sports Office in the Al-Dhahir district and a youth coach for the Shabab Ibb Club. The arrest occurred at a police station in the Al-Mashanah district after Al-Attab reported a foul odor emanating from the guard room of the Al-Kabsi Stadium.
Following Al-Attab’s report, authorities discovered the body of stadium guard Ali Mohammed Hassan Abdullah Al-Jabri. He had suffered brutal injuries, including multiple stab wounds and severe head trauma, inflicted by unknown assailants. Al-Jabri had been missing for four days prior to the grim discovery.
Despite efforts from family members and sports officials to secure his release, the militia continued to hold Al-Attab until late yesterday. This situation highlights the increasing lawlessness in Ibb, a province under Houthi control.
The recent murder of Al-Jabri and the detention of Al-Attab reflect a broader pattern of violence and insecurity in the region. As the Houthi militia maintains its grip on power, local communities face escalating threats to their safety and well-being.
This incident underscores the urgent need for improved security measures and accountability in areas affected by militia control.
