The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that the number of registered displaced persons in Lebanon has surpassed 1.1 million. This alarming figure highlights the escalating humanitarian needs across the country.
According to OCHA, more than 137,000 displaced individuals, including a significant number of children, currently reside in approximately 700 collective shelters, primarily schools. Meanwhile, many displaced persons live with host communities or in informal settlements. These individuals face considerable challenges in accessing basic services, exacerbating their already precarious situation.
The United Nations has reiterated its urgent call for de-escalation and adherence to international humanitarian law. The organization emphasized the critical need to protect civilians, including humanitarian and health workers. Furthermore, it stressed the importance of ensuring safe and unhindered access to humanitarian aid. The UN also highlighted the necessity for adequate funding to support humanitarian responses in Lebanon.
As the situation in Lebanon continues to deteriorate, the international community must respond swiftly to address the growing humanitarian crisis. The plight of over 1.1 million displaced individuals demands immediate attention and action to alleviate their suffering and restore their dignity.
