Virtual Meeting Highlights Financial Challenges
Today, Ahmed Ghaleb, the Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen, held a virtual meeting with ambassadors from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, and the European Union. The discussion focused on the current financial and economic situation in Yemen, emphasizing the pressing challenges the country faces.
UK Ambassador Expresses Gratitude
During the meeting, British Ambassador Abda Sharif expressed her country’s appreciation for the efforts of the Central Bank’s leadership, particularly Governor Ahmed Ghaleb. Despite the difficult circumstances in Yemen, she reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to supporting the independence of the Central Bank. This independence is crucial for establishing an effective financial sector and achieving economic stability.
Support from European Ambassadors
Ambassadors from France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the European Union also voiced their full support for the independence of the Central Bank of Yemen. They highlighted its vital role in maintaining economic stability. Catherine Korm-Camon from France, Thomas Schneider from Germany, Janette Sieben from the Netherlands, and Patrick Simonet from the EU collectively emphasized the importance of a strong and independent central bank.

In a joint statement, the ambassadors reiterated their countries’ commitment to Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. They stressed the significance of the Central Bank as an independent institution responsible for managing monetary policy and ensuring financial stability.
