Water and Environment Minister inspects Aden’s Khormaksar water tank project site.

In a significant development aimed at enhancing water supply infrastructure in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital, Water and Environment Minister Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi visited the construction site of the first zone water reservoir project in Al-Barzakh area, Khormaksar district. The project, with a budget of €2,749,865, receives funding from the German Development Bank and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Project Overview and Progress

During his visit, Minister Al-Sharjabi received a detailed briefing from Engineer Mohammed BaKhabira, the General Director of the Aden Local Water and Sewerage Corporation. The briefing covered the project’s components, executed by the Social Fund for Development through Dom International Company. It includes the construction of a welded steel tank with a capacity of 18,000 cubic meters, complete with all necessary connections and accessories for the installation and operation of the reservoir.

Enhancing Water Quality and Supply

Minister Al-Sharjabi also examined the ongoing work at the water testing laboratory affiliated with the water institution. He reviewed the testing mechanisms specific to water laboratories, emphasizing the importance of ensuring water quality for the citizens of Aden. Furthermore, the minister visited the water supply control room, gaining insights into the water levels in the tanks supplying the districts of Sirah, Ma’alla, Tawahi, and Khormaksar. He stressed the need for continuous efforts to guarantee the sustained water supply to the temporary capital’s districts, praising the institution’s rapid response to citizens’ complaints.

This visit underscores the Yemeni government’s commitment to improving water infrastructure and addressing the essential needs of its citizens in Aden.
