On Monday, Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak visited the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority in Aden. He assessed the authority’s operations and activities aimed at bolstering the national economy.
During his visit, Prime Minister bin Mubarak, accompanied by Minister of Oil and Minerals Saeed Al-Shamasi and Minister of Finance Salem bin Brek, toured various sections of the authority. They listened to officials explain the authority’s tasks, including conducting surveys, preparing maps, and executing mineral exploration activities. The officials also discussed future plans to enhance the authority’s performance and the mechanisms for issuing export and exploration permits.
Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak learned about the National Data Center within the authority, which represents a significant advancement in geological data management. This center plays a crucial role in mitigating natural disasters, conducting climate change research, and studying geological phenomena.
Officials at the center provided insights into the modern technologies used for analyzing geological data. These technologies serve as essential tools for decision-making, sustainable development, and disaster management. The center stands out as one of the most advanced facilities in the geological field, utilizing sophisticated systems to monitor and analyze natural disasters, including earthquakes, landslides, and floods.
The Prime Minister praised the advanced technologies observed at the center, emphasizing their importance in reducing natural disasters and conducting climate research. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fully support the center, enhancing its role in promoting development and investment.
Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak highlighted that establishing a robust geological data infrastructure would attract investments and strengthen the mining sector, a cornerstone of the national economy.
Following his visit, Prime Minister bin Mubarak chaired a comprehensive meeting with Minister of Oil and Minerals Dr. Saeed Al-Shamasi, Minister of Finance Salem bin Brek, and leaders from the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority. They reviewed ambitious investment plans in the mining sector, which the government aims to develop by attracting companies.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of utilizing Yemen’s rich mineral resources, including lithium, gold, silver, and copper. These valuable minerals play a pivotal role in supporting the national economy and enhancing industries related to renewable energy.
The Prime Minister directed the authority to regulate the issuance of permits and focus on production and marketing processes for mineral resources. He called for a comprehensive survey and study of the quantity, locations, and classification of minerals to optimize their contribution to national revenue. Additionally, he urged the authority to coordinate with relevant agencies to curb mineral smuggling and prevent reckless excavation practices.
During the meeting, the Minister of Oil and Minerals and the head of the Geological Survey Authority presented a report on efforts to facilitate investment in the sector. They emphasized the need for collaboration among relevant entities to ensure an attractive investment environment and provide comprehensive support to the National Data Center for accurate geological data provision.
The meeting included the Prime Minister’s advisor, Ambassador Mujib Othman, Executive Director of the Prime Minister’s Technical Team Jamal bin Ghanem, Deputy Minister of Oil and Minerals for Financial and Administrative Affairs Talal bin Haidara, Deputy Minister for Mineral Affairs Youssef Moussaad, General Director of the Yemeni Oil and Gas Corporation Mohammed Thabet, and Head of the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority Ahmed Al-Yamani.
