President Alimi Receives Report on Prisoner Release Initiatives

On Monday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, received a report detailing the implementation of presidential directives aimed at releasing prisoners. This initiative focuses on those who have served three-quarters or half of their sentences, as well as those imprisoned for financial obligations who have settled their debts. The report coincides with the upcoming month of Ramadan.

Meeting with the Attorney General

During the meeting, President Alimi welcomed Attorney General Judge Qaher Mustafa, accompanied by Minister of Justice Judge Badr Al-Aradah. The discussions centered around the progress of the prisoner release initiative and the broader judicial system.

Details of the Prisoner Release

According to the report, authorities released a total of 482 prisoners. This group includes 152 individuals who completed three-quarters of their sentences, 137 who finished their full terms, and 23 who were imprisoned for financial matters after settling their debts. Additionally, the release included 160 prisoners granted bail and 10 others released due to the absence of grounds for prosecution.

Ongoing Support for Indigent Prisoners

Attorney General Mustafa noted that 324 prisoners remain incarcerated due to their inability to pay financial obligations. He emphasized ongoing communication with relevant authorities, business leaders, and charitable organizations to assist these financially distressed inmates.

Judicial System Overview

President Alimi also received a comprehensive briefing from the Minister of Justice and the Attorney General regarding the operations of courts, prosecution offices, and supporting agencies over the past period. They discussed the resolution of cases pending in various judicial circles, ongoing reforms, and updates to the judicial system, as well as the necessary support to enhance its effectiveness across different provinces.

Acknowledgment of Judicial Achievements

The President acknowledged the vital role of the judiciary and praised its achievements in recent times. He highlighted the judiciary’s efforts to uphold the rule of law, protect public funds, and ensure justice for the wronged.

Commitment to Judicial Independence

President Alimi reaffirmed the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to support the judiciary. He emphasized the importance of facilitating its noble tasks while respecting its independence in exercising constitutional and legal responsibilities.
