The National Coalition’s Supreme Council meets with the UK Ambassador to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation.

Meeting Between Yemen's National Coalition and UK Ambassador

Dr. Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr, the head of Yemen’s National Coalition of Political Parties, met today with the UK Ambassador to Yemen, Abdu Sharif. This meeting aimed to discuss the current political situation in Yemen and explore ways to enhance cooperation between the two nations.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During the meeting, Dr. bin Daghr emphasized the historical friendship and cooperation between Yemen and the UK. He praised the UK’s political stance and the humanitarian and economic support it has provided to Yemen. This support plays a crucial role in Yemen’s ongoing recovery efforts.

Goals of the National Coalition

Dr. bin Daghr outlined the objectives of the National Coalition, which comprises various political parties and groups across Yemen. The coalition aims to restore the state and end the Houthi coup. He asserted that the Houthis remain the sole party obstructing all peace initiatives and efforts.

Call for Active UK Involvement

The National Coalition urged the UK to take an active role in unifying regional and international positions against the Houthi militia. Dr. bin Daghr stressed that restoring state institutions and ending the coup is a national necessity that cannot be delayed. He warned against any leniency towards the Houthi project, which poses a threat to regional and international security.

Importance of Established Frameworks

Dr. bin Daghr highlighted the significance of adhering to the three key references: the Gulf Initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. He called on the international community to adopt a firm stance to prevent the Houthi militia from seizing international aid and ensure it reaches those in need.

UK Support for Yemen’s Political Path

In response, Ambassador Abdu Sharif expressed the UK’s appreciation for the efforts made by the National Coalition. She reaffirmed her country’s commitment to supporting the political process and the restoration of state institutions in Yemen.

This meeting marks a significant step in fostering collaboration between Yemen and the UK, as both nations work towards a stable and prosperous future.
