Yemen participates in the Arab Women’s Conference, reaffirming its commitment to protecting women from cyber violence.

Yemen Participates in the 10th Arab Women Organization Conference

The Republic of Yemen is actively participating in the 10th Arab Women Organization Conference, which commenced today in Egypt. This two-day event focuses on the theme of “Connecting, Empowering, and Protecting Women and Girls from Cyber Violence and Technology-Related Violence.” The Yemeni delegation is led by Dr. Shafiqa Said, the head of the National Women’s Committee.

Conference Objectives

The conference brings together ministers and heads of national mechanisms responsible for women’s affairs across Arab countries. Its primary goal is to discuss strategies to combat digital violence and promote safe empowerment for women amid the ongoing digital transformation.

Importance of the Conference

Dr. Shafiqa emphasized the significance of this conference, especially in light of the rapid digital changes affecting the world. She highlighted the challenges these transformations pose in protecting women and girls from new forms of violence emerging from modern technology. Cyber violence now represents a direct threat to the psychological and social security of women, undermining their participation in public life.

Yemen’s Efforts Against Cyber Violence

Despite facing humanitarian and security challenges, Yemen has demonstrated effective coordination between government entities and civil society organizations to combat online violence. Dr. Shafiqa presented several initiatives and reports that document these efforts. Notable examples include the “Sund” platform, the Knowledge Center’s report, the “Platform 30” survey, and the 2024 initiative by the Cyber Extortion Combat Unit in Aden, developed in collaboration with the Public Prosecution and the “Noon” women’s coalition.

Government Initiatives and Statistics

The Yemeni government has also made strides in addressing cyber violence. The Criminal Investigation Department in Aden recorded over 1,250 reports related to cyber violence in 2024 and 2025. Additionally, the Public Prosecution Office has received 22 significant cases, some of which resulted in stringent judicial rulings. The Yemeni government, in partnership with various stakeholders, is working on legislation to combat cyber crimes, implementing awareness programs, and building women’s capacities in the digital realm.

Commitment to Regional and International Cooperation

Furthermore, Yemen is committed to enhancing regional and international cooperation. The government aims to expand early warning platforms and connect them to national hotlines. Yemen remains dedicated to strengthening legislation and partnerships to protect women and girls from digital violence, ensuring their safety and empowerment in an increasingly digital world.
