Minister of Youth and Sports Discusses Collaboration with UNOPS

On Sunday, Naif Saleh Al-Bakri, the Minister of Youth and Sports, met with representatives from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to explore avenues for collaboration. The discussions focused on joint efforts in infrastructure projects, as well as initiatives aimed at enhancing youth and sports activities in Yemen.

Partnership for Infrastructure Development

During the meeting, Minister Al-Bakri emphasized the need to establish a partnership with UNOPS. This collaboration aims to implement several infrastructure projects, including sports fields and facilities in Aden and surrounding governorates. He praised UNOPS for its commitment to rehabilitating sports venues, notably the “Badr Camp Hall” in Khormaksar and the Aden Tennis Courts in Crater. Furthermore, Al-Bakri highlighted the importance of supporting youth initiatives and providing various sports equipment to clubs and sports federations.

Identifying Key Needs for Projects

Al-Bakri directed the project sector to engage with UNOPS representatives and identify critical needs for infrastructure projects. The initial focus will be on Aden, followed by neighboring governorates such as Lahij, Abyan, and Al-Dhale. Coordinating efforts between the ministry and UNOPS will ultimately benefit the sports and youth sectors in Yemen.

UNOPS Representatives Commend Efforts

UNOPS representatives, Engineer Ramsis Younis and Engineer Hossam Aboudah, commended the ministry’s leadership for its dedication to advancing sports activities in Yemen. They acknowledged the ministry’s efforts to implement numerous youth programs despite the challenging circumstances of the ongoing conflict that has persisted for over nine years. The representatives expressed their eagerness to foster a fruitful collaboration with the ministry and execute various joint programs.

Meeting Attendees

The meeting also included key officials from the ministry, such as Dr. Hassan Abdul-Rab, head of the technical office, Engineer Sadiq Al-Najdi, director general of the project management department, and Shukri Hussein, director general of the public relations department.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards revitalizing sports and youth engagement in Yemen, paving the way for future development and support in these vital areas.
