In a recent statement, Yemen’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, condemned the shocking attack by Houthi militia members on an innocent child and the destruction of a commercial establishment in the city of Rada’a, Al-Bayda Governorate. He described this incident as a stark reflection of the militia’s brutality and their disregard for civilian lives, exacerbating the suffering of people in areas under their control.
Al-Eryani emphasized that this incident is not an isolated event. Instead, it forms part of a disturbing pattern of daily violations committed by the Houthi militia against civilians. These violations range from killings, kidnappings, and torture to the recruitment of children and the planting of landmines. Additionally, the militia has targeted residential neighborhoods, resulting in tens of thousands of innocent casualties, including women and children.
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms recently documented an alarming 7,742 violations against civilians and property in Al-Bayda Governorate alone, spanning from January 2015 to June 2024. Al-Eryani noted that silence regarding these crimes only encourages the Houthis to continue their oppressive actions. He called on all Yemenis to unite in confronting this criminal militia and to work towards alleviating the suffering of their fellow citizens.
Al-Eryani urged the international community and human rights organizations to take a firm stance against these crimes and violations. He called for immediate action to designate the Houthi militia as a “Global Terrorist Organization” and to hold those responsible for these atrocities accountable, ensuring they do not escape punishment.
In conclusion, the situation in Yemen demands urgent attention. The ongoing violence and suffering of civilians highlight the need for decisive action from both local and international stakeholders to restore peace and justice in the region.
