Minister Discusses Fishery Port Rehabilitation in Aden

In a significant meeting held today in Aden, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Salem Al-Saqtri, engaged with Dr. Nadia Al-Awamleh, the Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The discussion focused on the latest developments regarding the rehabilitation of the fishery port in the Tawahi area of Aden. This project, funded by the German Development Bank (KfW), carries a budget of $35 million.

Project Overview and Investment Opportunities

During the meeting, both officials reviewed the technical and administrative procedures related to the rehabilitation of service and investment facilities within the port. These improvements present promising opportunities for both local and international private sectors to invest and partner in the project. Additionally, they discussed the ongoing implementation of the fisheries development project in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Arabian Sea.

Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships

Minister Al-Saqtri emphasized the ministry’s commitment to enhancing partnerships with the private sector. He highlighted the importance of operating several vital investment projects within the port. These initiatives aim to stimulate the local economy and improve the infrastructure of the fisheries sector. He praised the UNDP’s pivotal role in these efforts and called for increased collaboration to ensure the project meets its scheduled timeline.

UNDP’s Commitment to Sustainable Development

In response, Dr. Al-Awamleh reaffirmed the UNDP’s dedication to intensifying efforts in executing these vital projects. She noted that these initiatives significantly impact citizens’ lives and bolster coastal communities’ capacity to achieve sustainable development.

This collaboration between the Yemeni government and the UNDP marks a crucial step toward revitalizing the fisheries sector and enhancing economic stability in the region.
