Emergency Response Plan Launched in Taiz to Combat Epidemics

In a decisive move, Taiz Governor Nabil Shamsan has initiated an emergency response plan to tackle the spread of epidemics in the province. The plan primarily focuses on combating cholera, dengue fever, and malaria.

Urgent Implementation of Health Measures

During a comprehensive meeting attended by health sector leaders, district managers, and relevant executive offices, Governor Shamsan emphasized the need for swift action. He urged all parties to implement the emergency response plan effectively. The governor highlighted the importance of specialized teams and ongoing coordination among various agencies to achieve fruitful outcomes in addressing these health crises.

Strengthening Health Infrastructure

Dr. Ilan Abdul Haq, the Deputy Governor for Health Affairs, stressed the necessity of activating emergency plans and enhancing the readiness of health and environmental facilities. She underscored the importance of continuous technical and logistical support for medical staff. Additionally, she called for rigorous inspections of restaurants and food vendors to ensure compliance with health regulations.

Importance of Field Surveillance

The Director of the Health Office reiterated the significance of field surveillance for epidemic cases. He emphasized the need to provide adequate support to medical teams. Furthermore, he pointed out the crucial role of partnerships with local and international organizations to secure essential health and pharmaceutical supplies.

Current Epidemiological Situation

Dr. Yassin Al-Sharahi, Director of Epidemiological Surveillance at the Health Office, presented a detailed report on the current epidemiological situation. He noted that there have been 1,264 suspected cases of acute watery diarrhea, potentially linked to cholera, along with 1,475 cases of dengue fever and 18,832 malaria cases reported since the beginning of the year.

Action Plan Approved

The meeting concluded with the approval of an action plan that includes launching a large-scale fogging campaign targeting the most affected districts and areas. This initiative aims to enhance efforts against disease vectors, improve health and environmental monitoring, combat water pollution sources, and upgrade sewage networks. Additionally, the plan emphasizes increasing community awareness campaigns and supporting treatment centers for diarrhea and cholera by providing necessary medications and medical supplies.

By implementing these measures, Taiz aims to mitigate the impact of these epidemics and safeguard public health.
