The Head of the Presidential Leadership Council asserts to the international community that the Houthi group is now a hopeless partner for peace.

President Alimi Meets UK Ambassador to Discuss Bilateral Relations

On Wednesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed UK Ambassador Abda Sharif. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing local developments. Additionally, they reviewed updates on international support programs aimed at comprehensive reforms in Yemen.

Support for Yemen’s Government

President Alimi praised the UK’s supportive stance towards the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government. He highlighted the UK’s pivotal role in advocating for the Yemeni people on international platforms, particularly as a penholder in the United Nations Security Council.

Humanitarian and Developmental Assistance

The President commended the UK’s humanitarian and developmental interventions. He noted the importance of British support for financial stability, institutional building, and proposed initiatives to enhance media content. These efforts aim to counter misleading narratives regarding Yemen.

Progress on Comprehensive Reforms

During the meeting, President Alimi discussed the progress made in the comprehensive reform program. He outlined the significant steps taken by the government and the Central Bank to implement the Presidential Leadership Council’s decisions. Key achievements include the establishment of budget and import regulation committees, which enhance transparency and boost public revenues while strengthening the national currency.

Ongoing Threats from Houthi Militias

The discussion also addressed the persistent threats posed by Houthi militias to international peace and security, supported closely by the Iranian regime. President Alimi expressed concern over the increasing risks associated with the continued flow of Iranian weapons to these militias.

Security Concerns and International Response

In this context, the President highlighted the growing security threats stemming from the Houthis’ explicit collaboration with terrorist organizations, including Al-Shabaab. He emphasized that the militias exploit the economy and banking transfers as tools of war against the Yemeni people.

Call for Stronger International Action

President Alimi urged for a more robust international response to these threats, including the expansion of sanctions against Houthi militias. He asserted that the Houthis have become an unviable partner for peace and that intensifying pressure on them represents the most realistic path to achieving peace and stability in Yemen and the broader region.

Meeting Attendees

Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, also attended the meeting.
