The Republic of Yemen participated today in a meeting of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives. The delegation, led by Dr. Ali Mousa, Yemen’s acting permanent representative to the Arab League, focused on preparations for the upcoming 165th session of the Council at the ministerial level.
During the meeting, the Kingdom of Bahrain officially took over the presidency of the Council. This transition follows the established rotation among member states. Ambassador Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal, Bahrain’s ambassador to Egypt and permanent representative to the Arab League, opened the session. She emphasized that the meeting occurs during a particularly sensitive regional context, facing unprecedented challenges that threaten Arab national security. The discussions also aimed to address the preservation of international navigation freedom, strengthen Arab unity, and protect the interests of Arab peoples.
The meeting reviewed the agenda for the upcoming session, which includes discussions on the violations against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of several Arab nations. Additionally, the agenda covers various regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Participants underscored the importance of continuing discussions on the remaining agenda items in an open regular session. They noted the possibility of deferring some topics according to the established procedural framework while also addressing any emerging issues.
The meeting included First Secretary Aziz Al-Thamthi and delegation member Warda Al-Shaeri, who contributed to the discussions.
