President Alimi Meets U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Yemen

On Thursday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Jonathan Pecha, the U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Yemen. This meeting focused on the strong bilateral relations between Yemen and the United States, exploring ways to enhance and develop these ties.

Discussion on Local Developments and International Support

During their conversation, President Alimi and Pecha discussed the current local situation and the necessary international support for government reforms. They emphasized the importance of strengthening the national currency and addressing pressing economic challenges.

Coordination Against Terrorism and Organized Crime

The meeting also highlighted ongoing coordination to support law enforcement authorities in combating terrorism, smuggling, money laundering, and organized crime. President Alimi praised the United States for its support of constitutional legitimacy in various forums. He expressed hope for the resumption of U.S. humanitarian interventions, ensuring aid reaches those in need without interference from the Houthi militia.

Appreciation for Regional Humanitarian Efforts

In this context, President Alimi expressed gratitude for the humanitarian and developmental interventions by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. These efforts have significantly alleviated the suffering of the Yemeni people and supported the economic recovery process.

U.S. Role in Countering Houthi Threats

President Alimi acknowledged the substantial U.S. role in countering the Houthi threat. This includes support for the United Nations inspection mechanism and the enforcement of maximum pressure under the terrorist designation. He warned against the continued flow of advanced Iranian weapons to the Houthis, including those banned internationally.

Emphasis on Continued Pressure Against Houthi Militias

The President stressed the importance of maintaining maximum pressure to deter the terrorist behavior of Houthi militias. He called for clearer stances regarding any agreements with Iran that overlook the dangers posed by its destructive proxies and affiliated terrorist organizations in Yemen and the region.
