On Monday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with ambassadors from countries supporting Yemen’s political process. The meeting also included Prime Minister Salem Saleh Bin Brek.
During the meeting, President Alimi expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support from these nations for the Yemeni people throughout various stages of the conflict. He emphasized that the partnership with the international community extends beyond mere assistance; it represents a shared responsibility to uphold the concept of statehood, support legitimate institutions, and prevent the establishment of parallel authorities.
President Alimi briefed the ambassadors on recent developments in the eastern provinces. He highlighted that unilateral actions taken by the Southern Transitional Council (STC) violate transitional phase references. These actions threaten the unity of security and military decisions, undermine the authority of the legitimate government, and pose a serious risk to stability and the future of the political process.
The President praised Saudi Arabia’s responsible role in facilitating de-escalation efforts in Hadhramaut. He noted the successful agreement to ensure the operation of oil facilities and prevent the province from descending into open conflict. However, he expressed concern that these efforts face ongoing threats due to unilateral military movements, which perpetuate an atmosphere of tension and distrust.
President Alimi warned of severe economic and living conditions resulting from any disruptions, particularly in Hadhramaut and Al-Mahrah. He explained that such disruptions could hinder salary payments, reduce fuel supplies for power stations, exacerbate the humanitarian crisis, and undermine economic reforms. This situation could also weaken donor confidence in the legitimate government.
The President asserted that an effective path to de-escalation lies in a unified international stance that rejects unilateral actions. He called for a clear commitment to transitional phase references and support for the legitimate government as the sole executive authority safeguarding the nation’s interests.
President Alimi reiterated the Council’s firm position against providing political cover for any unilateral actions outside the state’s institutional framework, provided there is genuine national, regional, and international will.
In this context, the President emphasized the importance of a cohesive stance among coalition countries in supporting the legitimate government. This support is crucial for maintaining the unity of state institutions and preventing destabilization in liberated provinces.
The President stressed that the country and its citizens cannot afford to open new fronts of conflict. He affirmed that the real battle remains focused on restoring state institutions and ending the Houthi coup, which is backed by the Iranian regime.
President Alimi assured that the Presidential Leadership Council and the government remain committed to fulfilling their obligations to citizens and regional and international partners, particularly Saudi Arabia. He commended Saudi Arabia’s prompt responses to the needs of the Yemeni people across various sectors.
The President urged the international community to adopt a unified stance against any encroachments on the government’s exclusive powers. He called for public pressure to withdraw external forces from Hadhramaut and Al-Mahrah, supporting local authorities in fulfilling their constitutional duties to protect sovereign facilities and promote de-escalation.
President Alimi expressed confidence in the Yemeni people and their government’s ability to deter any threats and uphold the legal status of the state. He warned that the collapse of state authority in Yemen would lead to instability, making investment impossible in both the north and south. He reiterated the need for collective responsibility to prevent further fragmentation and chaos.
In response, the ambassadors reiterated their full commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, and the unity and stability of Yemen. They emphasized the importance of the Council’s unity and the government’s adherence to its commitments to the regional and international community to ensure continued support at all levels.
The meeting concluded with the presence of Dr. Sha’if Al-Zandani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, highlighting the collaborative efforts needed to navigate Yemen’s complex political landscape.
