Yemen's Public Works Minister Discusses Post-Cyclone Reconstruction Efforts in Al Mahrah

In a crucial meeting held today, Salem Al-Harizi, the Minister of Public Works and Roads, engaged in discussions with Al Mahrah Governor, Mohammed Ali Yasser, addressing the urgent need for road projects and the repair of significant damages caused by Cyclone “Tej” that hit the governorate late last year.

A Collaborative Approach to Disaster Recovery

The meeting, attended by key figures including Salem Abdullah Neimer, the Secretary-General of the Local Council, Brigadier General Dr. Mukhtar bin Awaid, the First Deputy, and Awad Quweizan, the Deputy for Technical Affairs, centered on the importance of implementing urgent projects to rehabilitate the roads affected by Cyclone “Tej”. The discussions highlighted the necessity of securing funding and the joint efforts between local and governmental agencies to mitigate the cyclone’s impacts.

Governor Mohammed Ali Yasser provided a concise overview of the governorate’s needs in the realm of road projects. He emphasized the critical need for immediate intervention to repair and maintain the four tunnels in the Fartak Mountain range, some of which have begun to show internal cracks, indicating an urgent need for action.

Commitment to Restoration and Maintenance

Minister Al-Harizi reassured the attendees of the ministry’s commitment to Al Mahrah, noting plans to initiate a project for the maintenance of the inner city streets of Al Ghaydah and to conduct necessary studies for the maintenance of the tunnel project. This international route holds utmost significance, underscoring the government’s dedication to restoring and maintaining critical infrastructure.

This meeting marks a significant step towards the recovery and rebuilding of Al Mahrah in the aftermath of Cyclone “Tej”, showcasing a united front between local and governmental bodies to address the urgent needs of the affected communities.
