Aden's Chamber of Commerce and Industry Celebrates 138 Years of Excellence and Future Ambitions

In a grand ceremony held today, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Aden, the provisional capital, celebrated its 138th anniversary under the theme “Aden’s History: A Legacy of the Past and Ambitions for the Future.” The event, marked by speeches and honors, drew attention to the chamber’s long-standing history and its pivotal role in shaping the trade landscape not only in Yemen but across the globe.

Mohammed Al-Ashwal, the Minister of Industry and Trade, lauded the chamber’s historic significance and its contribution to positioning Aden as a key commercial hub. He highlighted the chamber’s enduring partnership with the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, which plays a crucial role in elevating commercial activities. Al-Ashwal’s remarks underscored the government’s commitment to enhancing trade and industry through international agreements, including significant steps towards facilitating Yemeni exports to China with customs and tax exemptions.

Government and Private Sector Collaboration

The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Salem Al-Wali, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade; Badr Ma’awon, Secretary-General of the Local Council in Aden Governorate; and Dr. Mohammed Banaja, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen. These leaders collectively emphasized the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in fostering economic development and strategic projects that would serve as pillars for Aden’s commercial and strategic resurgence.

Acknowledging Contributions and Looking Ahead

Abu Bakr Ba’Abid, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Aden, reflected on the chamber’s efforts over the years to develop the private sector as a fundamental partner in economic development. The celebration also served as an occasion to launch the chamber’s official website and honor a group of pioneering businessmen and commercial figures who have significantly contributed to the chamber’s success and the region’s economic landscape.

The event not only commemorated the chamber’s past achievements but also set a forward-looking tone, emphasizing the collective ambition to continue driving economic growth and prosperity in Aden and beyond.

This milestone celebration by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Aden underscores the enduring legacy and future potential of Aden as a central hub for trade and industry, marking a pivotal moment in the city’s rich history of commerce and development.
