A comprehensive health meeting took place today in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen. The Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qassem Mohammed Baheeb, led the discussions on the current health situation, intervention plans, and coordination among various partners.
The meeting included leaders from the Ministry of Health and representatives from several international partner organizations. Participants reviewed available resources and explored ways to enhance the health sector. They identified key challenges, including a shortage of healthcare personnel, inadequate medical supplies, and infrastructure needs. Additionally, they discussed partner interventions in primary healthcare, disease control, and emergency response.
The meeting also highlighted the support provided by the World Bank to the health sector. Participants emphasized the importance of aligning this support with the Ministry of Health’s priorities. This alignment ensures that resources address actual needs based on field studies and assessments.
During the meeting, Minister Baheeb reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to a clear strategic vision aimed at rebuilding the health system and enhancing its resilience. He noted that this vision focuses on national priorities, including service continuity, quality improvement, emergency preparedness, and institutional development within the health sector.
Dr. Baheeb stressed the need for collaborative efforts between the Ministry and its partners. He urged all stakeholders to embrace their national and humanitarian responsibilities. By uniting efforts, they can maximize resource utilization and avoid duplication of interventions.
The Minister also called for directing health interventions based on actual needs to ensure equitable service distribution across various governorates. He highlighted the necessity of strengthening monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to measure impact and ensure transparency and accountability.
Representatives from international organizations shared their current interventions in the health sector and future plans to support the Ministry’s programs. They reaffirmed their commitment to continue partnerships and provide necessary support to enhance the health system’s capabilities and improve services for citizens.
This meeting marks a significant step toward addressing the pressing health challenges in Yemen and fostering a collaborative approach to improve healthcare delivery.
