Yemen and Russia Strengthen Youth and Sports Cooperation

Ministerial Meeting in Turkey

Today, Yemen’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Nayef Al-Bakri, met with his Russian counterpart, Mikhail Degtyarev, to discuss enhancing cooperation between the two nations. The meeting took place during the Eighth Forum on Traditional Sports in Antalya, Turkey. Both ministers aimed to develop bilateral relations in youth and sports sectors, benefiting young people and athletes in Yemen.

Joint Protocol for Collaboration

During their discussions, Al-Bakri and Degtyarev agreed to prepare a joint cooperation protocol. This protocol will include a series of programs focused on training, rehabilitation, sports medicine, and youth capacity building. Additionally, it will cover technical consultations and sports infrastructure projects. They plan to sign this agreement in the Russian Federation at a later date.

Historical Ties and Future Aspirations

Al-Bakri praised the strong historical ties between Yemen and Russia. He emphasized that these relationships are built on fruitful cooperation across various sectors, particularly in youth and sports. The minister acknowledged Russia’s significant role in supporting Yemen, especially through the dispatch of qualified coaches to Yemeni clubs since the late 1980s, particularly in football.

Looking ahead, Al-Bakri expressed the ministry’s desire to expand collaboration with Russia. He highlighted the importance of training and qualifying youth, enhancing the skills of professionals in sports medicine, and improving the overall standard of sports in Yemen.

Attendees of the Meeting

The meeting also included Yemen’s Ambassador to Turkey, Mohammed Saleh Tareq, and Ayman Al-Makhlafi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports for Financial and Administrative Affairs.

This partnership marks a significant step towards advancing youth and sports initiatives in Yemen, fostering a brighter future for the nation’s young athletes.
