On Thursday evening, a dramatic incident unfolded in the Al-Shaar district, east of Ibb Governorate. A local resident detonated his home using gas cylinders as a defensive measure against a raid by Houthi militia forces. This explosion resulted in multiple casualties among the militia members, according to local sources and eyewitness accounts.
The individual involved, Ahmad Saleh Al-Ghazali, hails from the village of Rouhan in the Al-Amaluk area. He refused to surrender to the Houthi forces that had surrounded his home following a dispute with a cousin, which led to him sustaining a gunshot wound. Reports indicate that Al-Ghazali relocated his family to a nearby house and then set a trap inside his home using gas cylinders. As the militia approached, he detonated the cylinders, inflicting significant losses on the attackers.
A video circulating on social media captured the aftermath of the explosion, showing the wreckage of the house and provoking shock and anger among local residents. Following the blast, armed clashes erupted between Al-Ghazali and the militia, which had called in reinforcements. Despite his resistance, the militia ultimately killed him after several hours of confrontation.
This incident highlights the escalating security crisis in Ibb Governorate. Citizens increasingly report violations and raids conducted by Houthi forces in areas under their control. The situation underscores a complete absence of law enforcement, exacerbating the suffering of residents and threatening regional stability.
