The individual involved, Ahmad Saleh Al-Ghazali, hails from the village of Rouhan in the Al-Amaluk area. Reports indicate that Al-Ghazali relocated his family to a nearby house and then set a trap inside his home using gas cylinders. As the militia approached, he detonated the cylinders, inflicting significant losses on the attackers.
