Recent reports from French media indicate that Ivorian footballer Serge Aurier, a former player for Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur, is on the verge of joining Montigny-en-Gohelle, a club competing in the seventh tier of French football. This move marks a surprising turn for the seasoned player, who is now 33 years old.
According to L’Équipe, Aurier prepares to return to the pitch after becoming a free agent following his departure from Persepolis in Iran at the beginning of 2026. The report highlights that he has accepted an offer from Montigny-en-Gohelle, a club currently facing challenges due to the departure of several players during the off-season.
Administrative procedures remain ongoing, as Aurier’s eligibility hinges on the receipt of documentation from the Iranian Football Federation. If the federation does not respond promptly, the French Football Federation may automatically resolve the situation within a month.
Aurier recently joined the coaching staff of the Under-15 team at Lens as an assistant coach. Now, he is poised to strengthen the defense of Montigny-en-Gohelle, a team that suffered a significant loss of ten goals to zero against Piash-San-Fast in their league opener.
