A nine-year-old boy was tragically killed by gunfire from a Houthi militia member on Thursday evening in the Khadir district, located east of Taiz province. This incident coincided with extensive military maneuvers by the militia, which included live ammunition drills in the area.
According to reports, the victim, Majd Walid Abdulbasit Al-Salmi, was playing in his yard in the Wadi Al-Hussein area of Al-Adi village when a bullet fired by a militia member from a nearby location struck him. The bullet penetrated the child’s chest, resulting in his immediate death.
The boy’s death occurred alongside a significant military buildup by the Houthi militia in the district. The militia deployed new military vehicles and equipment, conducting live-fire exercises with medium and heavy weapons, including 23mm cannons and howitzers. They also fired towards the Al-Barqa mountain area.
The situation in the city escalated further as eyewitnesses reported that the militia sent three heavy trucks from Al-Houban the previous night, loaded with equipment and weapons, likely including missiles and drones.
Additionally, the militia closed all access points to Dhaman Khadir city at 12:30 AM, except for the road connecting to Al-Houban, restricting movement in and out of the area. This action came amid a heavy presence of armed personnel and vehicles on both main and side streets.
The security presence extended to surrounding areas, including Al-Qala, Mahis, Al-Nouba in Jabal Saada, and the Saki’ dam. The militia imposed strict restrictions on the movement of citizens and vehicles, particularly during nighttime hours. Sources indicate that over the past three days, the militia has transported tanks, artillery, and anti-aircraft systems to various locations within the district.
Reports also revealed that new militia members, dressed in different military uniforms and covering their faces, have been deployed. Military vehicles have been stationed along roads at intervals of approximately two vehicles every fifty meters.
The ongoing violence and military activities raise serious concerns about the safety of civilians in the region, particularly children.
