Ambassador Raga’a discusses Houthi escalation in the Red Sea and Iranian violations in Yemen with the U.S. National Security Council.

Yemeni Ambassador Discusses Regional Security Concerns with U.S. Officials

Washington, D.C. – Yemeni Ambassador to the United States, Jamila Ali Rajea, met with officials from the Middle East and Africa division of the U.S. National Security Council to address the current situation in Yemen. The discussions focused on Iran’s violations of Yemeni airspace and the escalating actions of the Houthi militia in the Red Sea, all amid ongoing government efforts to achieve peace.

Overview of the Yemeni Crisis

During the meeting, Ambassador Rajea highlighted the developments in the Yemeni crisis and the implications of Houthi escalation on regional security and stability. She emphasized the critical need for international support to facilitate a resolution that would end the ongoing conflict.

Threats to Maritime Security

Ambassador Rajea pointed out that the Iranian-backed Houthi militia continues to undermine regional and international peace initiatives. She noted that Houthi attacks on commercial vessels and shipping routes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden pose a direct threat to maritime security and freedom of navigation. These actions disrupt global trade and destabilize the region.

Call for Unified International Response

The ambassador stressed that the persistence of these threats necessitates a unified and robust international response to deter the Houthi militia. She called for measures to protect strategic maritime routes and uphold both regional and international security. Such actions would bolster the Yemeni government’s efforts to restore stability and achieve lasting peace in the region.
