The Republic of Yemen, represented by Dr. Mansour Bajash, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, participated today in a high-level meeting of the Global Coalition for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution. This event took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and aimed to discuss practical steps to support peace efforts in the Middle East, establish a timeline for the creation of an independent Palestinian state, and end the ongoing occupation.
The meeting gathered representatives from 90 countries to establish a timeline for building the Palestinian state. Participants emphasized the importance of accountability under international law and the implementation of United Nations resolutions. Additionally, the discussions highlighted the partnership with coalition members, including Arab and Islamic nations, the European Union, and the critical humanitarian role of UNRWA in Gaza.
In his opening remarks, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed that mere condemnation no longer suffices in the face of the suffering endured by the Palestinian people. He stated, “The Palestinian people face immense hardship due to the expansion of settlements, the alteration of the historical and legal status of Jerusalem, and the rise of hate speech and incitement. All these factors undermine the viability of the two-state solution and contribute to increasing violence and instability.”
Furthermore, Prince Faisal warned that the ongoing failure to find a sustainable resolution to the conflict in the Middle East could have serious implications for international peace and security. He noted that such a failure could lead to the spread of extremism, terrorism, and illegal immigration. He reiterated the call for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the activation of accountability mechanisms to end impunity and double standards.
It is noteworthy that in September, Saudi Arabia announced the launch of the “International Coalition for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.” This initiative was presented on behalf of Arab and Islamic countries and European partners during a ministerial meeting focused on the Palestinian issue and peace efforts, held on the sidelines of the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting in Riyadh represents a significant step towards fostering international collaboration aimed at resolving one of the most enduring conflicts in the region. As efforts continue, the global community remains hopeful for a future where peace and stability can prevail in the Middle East.
