Yemen Participates in 57th Session of the Arab Permanent Human Rights Committee

The Republic of Yemen recently participated in the 57th session of the Arab Permanent Human Rights Committee at the Arab League. The Yemeni delegation was led by Nabil Abdul Hafiz Majid, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Human Rights for Partnership and International Cooperation.

Key Discussions on Human Rights Issues

During the session, representatives from member states discussed various issues related to the enhancement and protection of human rights in the Arab region. They reviewed a report from the General Secretariat regarding the measures taken to implement recommendations from the previous session (56th). This review aimed to follow up on collaborative efforts in the field of human rights.

Focus on the Palestinian Cause

The committee addressed the ongoing developments in the Palestinian issue under its standing agenda items. Participants condemned Israeli violations and racist practices in the occupied Arab territories. They also highlighted the plight of Arab prisoners in Israeli jails and the remains of Palestinian and Arab martyrs held by the occupying authorities in mass graves. Additionally, the committee discussed updates on the Arab Charter on Human Rights and mechanisms to enhance its implementation.

Commitment to Palestinian Rights

Participants reaffirmed that the Palestinian cause remains a top priority for Arab collective action. They emphasized that the ongoing violations faced by the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation represent a significant moral and humanitarian responsibility for the international community. The systematic terrorism against Palestinians calls for urgent action and solidarity.

Recommendations for Future Actions

In its recommendations, the committee stressed the importance of supporting joint Arab efforts in the field of human rights. They proposed that these recommendations be presented at the upcoming 165th session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level for consideration and adoption.

Conclusion

The meeting included contributions from Mujahid Mathna, an advisor at Yemen’s permanent mission to the Arab League. The discussions underscored the commitment of Arab nations to uphold human rights and address pressing issues in the region.
