Urgent Action Needed to Enhance Yemen’s Electricity Sector, Says Leadership Council Member

Meeting Focuses on Electricity Sector Improvements

Mareb Governor, Major General Sultan al-Aradah, convened with Minister of Electricity and Energy, Engineer Adnan al-Kaf, to address pressing issues within the electricity sector. The meeting focused on strategies to enhance service quality, improve technical capabilities, and increase operational efficiency. Key discussions included ongoing efforts to complete maintenance work on the gas station, Mareb 1.

Current Efforts and Future Plans

During the session, al-Aradah received a comprehensive overview from the Minister regarding the ministry’s initiatives aimed at bolstering the overall performance of the electricity system. The Minister highlighted necessary infrastructure improvements, upgrades to transmission and distribution networks, and future plans designed to meet the rising demand for electricity amidst current challenges.

Technical Reports and Performance Analysis

Al-Aradah was presented with technical reports detailing the performance levels of electricity projects, completion rates, and logistical challenges that have hindered progress. These reports underscored achievements in the maintenance project for the gas station and outlined actions needed to ensure its operational readiness and enhance production efficiency. This is especially crucial for Mareb, which accommodates 62% of the country’s displaced population.

Throughout the meeting, al-Aradah emphasized the urgency of accelerating the work pace and improving execution efficiency. He stressed the importance of enhanced coordination among relevant parties to achieve tangible results. Ensuring the stability of electricity service remains a top priority, as it directly impacts the daily lives of citizens. Al-Aradah also noted the political leadership’s commitment to supporting the Ministry of Electricity in developing this vital sector.

Furthermore, al-Aradah expressed profound appreciation for the support provided by the Kuwaiti government to the electricity sector. He acknowledged Kuwait’s significant role in funding and implementing essential development projects, particularly the maintenance of the gas station, Mareb 1. He commended the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Yemen for facilitating these initiatives and overcoming implementation challenges.

This meeting represents a significant step toward improving the electricity sector in Yemen, underscoring the collaborative efforts required to ensure a stable and reliable power supply for the population.
