Dr. Qassem Baheeb, the Minister of Public Health and Population, launched a blood donation campaign today in the temporary capital of Aden at the National Blood Transfusion and Research Center. He began the campaign by donating blood himself, sending a message about the importance of humanitarian initiatives and supporting blood reserves to enhance the capacity of health institutions to respond to emergencies.
The minister emphasized, in the presence of Dr. Tarek Al-Shaabi, Director of the Health Office in Aden, and Dr. Waheed Al-Bakhshi, Director General of Central Health Laboratories, that blood donation represents a humanitarian act and a community responsibility that directly contributes to saving the lives of patients and the injured. This is particularly crucial given the exceptional circumstances the country faces and the increasing demand for blood transfusion services.
He urged citizens to donate blood regularly and visit the National Center and accredited centers to ensure a safe and sustainable blood supply that meets the needs of hospitals, especially in emergency departments, intensive care units, surgical operations, and injury treatment centers.
Moreover, he stressed the importance of raising community awareness about the culture of continuous donation, rather than limiting it to times of crisis. He affirmed that a safe blood supply should be available year-round.
During his visit to the National Blood Transfusion Center, the minister reviewed the readiness to receive donors and the procedures for blood testing, preservation, and component separation. He also assessed the available stock of various blood types and platelets, along with the essential needs to enhance the center’s capabilities.
In a related context, Minister Baheeb visited injured patients receiving treatment at Aboud Hospital in Aden. He reviewed their conditions and the level of medical care provided to them. He listened to the military medical services leadership and hospital management as they explained the workflow in various departments and the protocols for handling injured cases.
Baheeb confirmed that the ministry continuously monitors the situation of the injured and coordinates with relevant authorities to provide the necessary healthcare. He emphasized that the government pays great attention to the issue of the injured and is keen to meet their treatment and care requirements.
The minister conveyed the political leadership’s greetings to the injured and wished them a speedy recovery. He appreciated the sacrifices they made for the sake of restoring and defending the homeland, affirming that their contributions will always be valued and honored. He stated that supporting them is a national and humanitarian duty.
He praised the efforts of the medical, nursing, and technical staff at the hospital, urging them to continue improving services and enhancing coordination among health entities to ensure a swift and effective response to the needs of the injured.
