The leadership of the Council of Shura convened today under the chairmanship of Dr. Ahmed Obaid bin Dagher. The meeting focused on the latest political and security developments in Yemen, particularly in the provinces of Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra.
During the meeting, attended by Deputy Chairman Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Abu Al-Ghaith and Hadhramaut Governor Salem Al-Khanbashi, participants addressed the unilateral actions taken by the Transitional Council. These actions have caused significant material, moral, and social harm, disrupting both national and regional security. The council emphasized that such measures violate the Riyadh Agreement and the power transfer declaration, weaken national unity, and threaten the legal status of the state. Furthermore, they open the door to serious political, security, and economic risks.
The Council of Shura reaffirmed its full support for the decisions made by the Presidential Leadership Council and the National Defense Council. These decisions aim to protect the state’s authority, maintain social peace, and prevent any forceful imposition of realities outside constitutional and legal frameworks. The council stressed the importance of the Transitional Council’s withdrawal from Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra and the handover of military camps to the National Shield Forces and local authorities.
The meeting expressed high appreciation for the fraternal positions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its responsible role in supporting constitutional legitimacy. The council acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s efforts to contain tensions and prevent the situation from escalating into open confrontations. They praised the statements and positions of Saudi leadership, particularly the message from Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, which underscored Yemen’s unity, security, and stability while rejecting any actions that undermine state authority.
The Council of Shura welcomed the decision by the Presidential Leadership Council to cancel the joint defense agreement with the United Arab Emirates. They also supported the declaration of a state of emergency and the directive to withdraw Emirati forces from Yemeni territory, transferring military camps in Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra to local authorities. The council deemed these decisions as responsible national actions grounded in the constitution and national references, aimed at safeguarding the sovereignty of the Republic of Yemen and correcting imbalances that have harmed the security and military landscape.
The council reiterated that the core battle for the Yemeni people remains the termination of the Houthi insurgency. They stressed that the three agreed-upon references—namely the Gulf Initiative, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and UN Security Council resolutions—form the solid foundation for any fair and comprehensive political solution.
The meeting highlighted that continued tensions in the eastern provinces could have severe repercussions on the economic, living, and service conditions for citizens, particularly regarding salary payments, fuel, and electricity supply. The council called on the international community and countries supporting the political process in Yemen to bolster the legitimate government, enabling it to exercise its constitutional powers.
The council reviewed its positions issued throughout December, reflecting a steadfast commitment to supporting constitutional legitimacy under the leadership of the Presidential Council. They renewed their pledge to defend the unity, security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the country.
In conclusion, the Council of Shura urged all political and social forces to rally behind the legitimate leadership. They emphasized the need for dialogue and rational discourse, uniting efforts to confront the Houthi insurgency. The council warned against practices that could undermine state institutions, which would lead the country into chaos, benefiting only hostile projects against Yemen.
